Hay making and gardening are the primary work being done in Schwarzthal. The hay of course, is used to feed their cows and goats. Garden for the humans, hogs, and chickens. Almost all work is done by hand or by horse. We did see one tractor in the villiage, maybe used for the larger gardens. All the family members were busy working at something; in the fields, with the children, old ladies knitting, or building new homes or remodeling.

This family had a load of the hay stocks. It seemed to be an older woman, teenage boy, and the woman in front working on this job.

This was our group, leaving Schwarzthal, walking down the driveway from the home where we had dinner. It was a bit of a sad time for me; who knows when I can return.

In the picture are Ursula and Arthur Seemann, Our maxi-taxi driver (orange shirt) and his buddy Marios (in black), Siegfried Weber, Hermann Stadler, and Stephanie Jung. Our drivers stayed with us that day, had lunch with us, translated a lot (Marios speaks Romanian and English), and scouted for girls!

These tree stocks are used for drying the hay. I'm not sure how they are set up in the fields but once set up, the hay is hung on the limbs, to form the schock at left. Sometimes the hay is hung over the fences. The hay is put into the barn later in the year, before winter sets in. Lots of pitchfork work!
