On the last day of the trip, I transferred to the other bus because it was going the farthest west, towards Frankfurt. I was a bit apprehensive but it turned out to be another wonderful experience. This bus had two tables in the back, stocked with their liquid refreshments. They practiced their singing frequently and I was able to sing along, much better after a bit of schnaps! Everyone was very sociable and I gave them a tearful thank you and goodbye in my best German. Thank you to all you lovely folks!

I wish I had names on all these people but I don't. Rudolph Elfi, director of the Salzgitter choir, is in the center in the yellow shirt. I am at his left shoulder with my mouth open, and Stefany Elfi is at my left. What a happy crowd!
Stefany Elfi was a delightful hostess on this bus. We were able to converse well enough and she sent me the group picture above, via E-mail. Thanks Stefany! (Lady at left of picture is unidentified) Several of us departed the bus on the Autobahn east of Frankfurt. I don't know where we were! But the father/daughter team introduced me to Friedrich Zachmann, who was going home to the Mainz area and he took me in tow. We drove to Friedberg and caught the train to Frankfurt. We transferred in Frankfurt to Mainz Sud, and then on to Laubenheim where the Wudis live. Friedrich was in his 70's and was a great source of information, and I could understand him! In Frankfurt, he discovered a young Romanian lady and we all travelled together to Mainz Sud. There as we discussed Romania, we found another young Romania lady who lived in Laubenheim. So we had a great adventure together. I must write to Friedrich and thank him. I would have been rather lost and tired on my own. |
